Raorchestes silentvalley or Silent Valley bushfrog is a species of tree frog endemic to the Nilgiri Hills of southern India and belongs to the species-rich Asian genus Raorchestes. This trees frogs have been found to have a very restricted distribution on the southwestern slopes of the Nilgiri Hills cloud forests in the Silent Valley National Park, southern India. Scientists from the National University of Singapore (NUS) have discovered a new species of narrow-mouthed frog in India’s wastelands. The common name is Laterite narrow-mouthed frog.  The thumbnail-sized frog, Microhyla laterite, proves that the region — nicknamed the Wastelands — has ecological significance. At present, the rocky area of southwest India is heavily used for garbage dumping and mining of laterie, a hard reddish material that forms brick-like blocks.

It’s distinguishing characters and affinity with S. mirabilis (Rchb.f.) Garay is discussed. An updated artificial key to all known species of Sarcoglyphis is provided. Sarcoglyphis (Orchidaceae) comprises 14 species distributed from India and China to Indonesia. Euphorbia gokakensis, a new succulent species of Euphorbiaceae, is described from the Belgaum district of Karnataka, India. The new species belongs to Euphorbia subgen. Euphorbia, and closely resembles Euphorbia caducifolia Haines. However, it is distinguished by its characteristic dwarf habit forming a compact cushion that hardly exceeds 50 cm in height. One of the major finding of this study was a description of a new genus Sarada, a distinct sister group to Sitana. One of the known species Sitana deccanensis belongs to this new genus. Along with this two new species Sarada superba and S. darwini are newly described. The lizards of this genus are only known from some parts of Maharashtra and north Karnataka. Five new species of brightly coloured freshwater crabs have been found in the Western Ghats, India’s wildlife haven. Of these, two species belong to the genus Ghatiana (discovered in 2014) and the remaining to Gubernatoriana (known since 1970).  Prior to this, 36 species belonging to 14 different genera were known from the Western Ghats in the family of freshwater crabs. The latest discoveries bring the total species count to 41.
